Rio Communities water system
Rio Communities, Chamesa Subdivision and La Merced Elementary School
General Information
New Mexico Water Service Company purchased the Rio Grande Utility Company in July 2002. Since that time, New Mexico Water Service Company has provided water and sewer service (in areas where infrastructure is available) that meets all quality standards.
To serve our customers in Rio Communities, water is pumped from deep wells drilled into the Santa Fe Formation of the Rio Grande Aquifer. The pumped water is disinfected and stored in a steel reservoir that provides 1.5 million gallons of storage. We also provide sewer service to many Rio Communities customers. Our wastewater treatment facility is an extended aeration, activated sludge facility with a capacity to treat 300,000 gallons influent per day. In Rio Communities, we serve over 1,800 residential customers, over 1,300 sewer customers, almost 20 business customers and one elementary school.
